A few weeks ago the Boss asked me "what are you doing on September 8th Comrade?" Being the savvy, switched on EA that I am, I responded "why, helping you out at the voting booth", which of course was the correct answer for those of us savvy, switched on EAs who are approaching retirement age and would like to keep our fairly well paid and stress free jobs.
So yesterday afternoon the Husband and I trundled into the car and drove several kilometres across town (because I bludgeoned him until he agreed to help the Husband volunteered to assist) to a far more trendy suburb than our own and handed out "how to vote the party line" pamphlets to people who had already decided how they were going to vote, but were too polite to say no thank you.
There were a few that had the "fuck off, don't bother me" stare as they walked through to the voting booths. I am a past practitioner of the fuck off stare, having learned to perfect it while working in the CBD and so recognised it immediately and stood well back from those wankers determined voters. The Husband folded pamphlets, refilled my water bottle and helped old ladies to their cars. The sun was shining, there was a nice breeze and the conversation with the other people handing out pamphlets was pleasant. After a few hours the Husband & I trundled back into the car and went home.
All in all, not such a bad way to spend the afternoon.
